North Unit UniServ Director (MAE Member Representative and Unified Service Provider)

The Mississippi Association of Educators is seeking qualified candidates for the position of UniServ Director for the North Unit. As a UniServ Director, you will be an integral part of our effort to support and organize educators and stakeholders in North Unit of the state as we work to implement the MAE strategic priorities through membership recruitment, promotion, retention, engagement, new leader identification and support to local associations and members in areas including, but not limited to, organizing, member rights advocacy, local development and leadership training, professional efficacy, and legislative advocacy.

OPENING FOR NORTH UNITY UNISERV DIRECTOR (MAE MEMBER REPRESENTATIVE AND UNIFIED SERVICE PROVIDER)

The Mississippi Association of Educators is seeking qualified candidates for the position of UniServ Director for the North Unit.

As a UniServ Director, you will be an integral part of our effort to support and organize educators and stakeholders in North Unit of the state as we work to implement the MAE strategic priorities through membership recruitment, promotion, retention, engagement, new leader identification and support to local associations and members in areas including, but not limited to, organizing, member rights advocacy, local development and leadership training, professional efficacy, and legislative advocacy.

In executing the role and responsibilities of the position, you will work closely and in a collaborative manner with MAE staff and local leaders.

Job Responsibilities

1. Stimulate and support the growth and development of effective local associations within each school district of the assigned UniServ Service Area including providing strategic membership recruitment and retention support, assisting locals in developing and implementing effective business management and operating procedures, improving governance documents, resolving grievances, protecting member rights, meeting member needs, and in general – performing the functions of a viable local association.

2. Assists members and locals in member rights advocacy.

3. Provides direct support and representation to members for employment issues including, but not limited to, direct discussions/representation with school administrators and school boards.

4. Monitors the introduction and status of all relevant state and federal legislation relating to members’ advocacy and support.

5. Advises leaders in dealing with local operations and assists in local association program development.

6. Assists in the development and dissemination of general communications.

7. Assists local associations in developing effective internal and external public relations programs.

8. Uses MAE program personnel and participates in providing programs and support to local associations and members through learning and engagement opportunities such as workshops and trainings.

9. Assists locals with political advocacy at the local, state and national levels.

10. Assists existing, new, and potential locals in internal and external organizing activities.

11. Assists members and locals with professional issues advocacy.

12. Plans, develops, and provides training for leaders and members.

13. Serves as a liaison/advisor and subject matter expert as assigned.

14. Attends major conferences, workshops, etc. in areas of assignment and disseminates relevant information obtained at said approved professional trainings.

15. Tracks all relevant data including, but not limited to, worksite representatives, local leaders, and conversations, in NEA 360.

16. Has proactive communications with membership drops/cancellations to ensure membership retention.

17. Enters and processes membership enrollment data, as necessary.

18. Serves as a House and/or Senate District liaison, as assigned.

19. Performs routine administrative tasks, such as submitting vouchers, activity reports and leave requests.

20. Performs other duties as assigned by the MAE Executive Director and management.

  • Ability to anticipate organizing opportunities and future organizational trends
  • Committed and able to drive long distances. A valid driver’s license and a properly insured personal vehicle is required.
  • Proven people skills, a sense of humor, and a “can do” attitude

Additional Information:

This position is salaried beginning on the hire date. The base salary range for the position is $49,696-$56,268 with the salary offer incorporating the chosen candidate’s work history and relevant professional experience. A range of fringe benefits will include retirement, dental insurance, vision care, life insurance, 401K option, paid sick leave, and paid vacation.
