Advocating for Change

Fight for your profession. Fight for your students. Fight for you.
We advocate on the state and local level to ensure our members have the resources they need to thrive, and our students have the public schools they need to reach their full potential.
During the 2022 and 2023 Mississippi Legislative sessions, MAE fought hard to ensure the state legislature backed up the talk about educators being heroes with action. The result — the largest teacher pay raise in the history of Mississippi in 2022 and a $100 million extra appropriation for schools in 2023. Find out how you can get involved in advocating for the public schools our staff and our students deserve. There’s a role for every union member in these fights!

Our Legislative Priorities

Every year, MAE advocates on behalf of students and members to the Mississippi Legislature so that we can create the best and strongest public schools. Check out our priorities for the 2024 legislative session.

Safe water in Jackson

When all the schools are closed, and no one can get a drink of water or take a shower in their homes, we know the Jackson water situation has reached the crucial stage. That's where we are right now. And that's why we need you to take action by encouraging legislators to collaborate with School Board members, with MAE members and others to solve Jackson's water issues for our students and our future. Brianna Bailey looks off to the side.
I believe in giving back to my community, whether on campus or at a local school, because it starts a cycle...We have a responsibility to support one another.
