MAE donates bottled water to Lanier high School

MAE donated 2,000 bottles of water to Lanier High School on Thursday, August 25. Lanier, like many other Jackson public schools, has been adversely impacted by the Jackson safe water crisis. MAE is working to bring decision makers together for a solution to an issue that has plagued Mississippi's Capital City for decades.

MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF EDUCATORS DONATES

2,000 BOTTLES OF WATER TO LANIER HIGH SCHOOL

JACKSON - On behalf of the Mississippi Association of Educators, President Erica Jones and Executive Director Antonio Castanon-Luna delivered 2,000 bottles of water to the student body and staff at Lanier High School in Jackson on Thursday afternoon, August 25.

The donation is part of the association’s ongoing campaign to make sure Jackson’s students have access to clean water.

“Jackson students are being adversely affected every single day by the water crisis,” Jones said. “We think it’s time for those who make the decisions to come together and offer a plan to correct Jackson’s water crisis from start to finish. And do it quickly

“As educators, our members are bearing the brunt of the effects of having either non-potable or non-existent safe water in schools. Students’ learning experiences are being steadily disrupted, and that will show in their achievement scores and grades,” Jones said.

The Association, in partnership with the Jackson Association of Educators, has been hosting meetings and discussions with community leaders and officials to solidify support for providing  a viable plan for correcting the water crisis and securing the funding necessary to implement it.

The groups will be hosting a community water giveaway at the MAE Office on Saturday, August 27, from 10:00 a.m. til 1:00 p.m. during a Safe Water Rally featuring food, children’s games, and speakers. The press is invited.
